Sentence Structure
The sentence structure in Spanish is different from English - in 3 main ways.
First : The adjectives come after nouns instead of before them in english.
Here are a few examples:
The red pant – El pantalon rojo.
The funny dog - El perro gracioso
The tall man – El chico alto.
The fast horse - el caballo rápido
Second: Direct Objects.
Here's an example:
In the phrase "I want it" in Spanish is "Lo quiero". If we translated this sentence directly would be "It I want".
Third: Indirect Object Pronouns.
An example of this would be the sentence:
"She did it for me" in Spanish, can be "Ella me lo hizo". If we translated this sentence directly , it would be "She me it did".
There are a few more subtle differences in sentence structure that we will not cover in this lesson. Don't be worry about them.
Exceptions it is .when adjectives come before nouns. The first one is using adjectives of number like:
many cats - muchos gatos
few monkys – pocos monos
the first station - la primera estacion
the last leaf - la última hoja
each animal - cada animal
all the professors - todos los profesores
Finally, few more exceptions, these adjectives can either come before or after nouns, they can make variation at meanings ,for example:
Before
After
New
Nuevo carro - new car (to the owner)
carro nuevo - new car (brand new)
poor
pobre hombre - poor man (ill-fated)
hombre pobre - poor man (economically)
Great/big
gran castillo - great castle
castillo grande - big castle
old
viejo amigo - old friend (a friend from long time ago)
amigo viejo - old friend (age)
Good
buen perro - good dog
perro bueno - good dog
Bad
Mala mujer - bad woman
mujer mala - bad woman
